Control4 Smart Lighting Is Now Better Than Ever

Lighting is such an important aspect of a home, yet it often goes unnoticed. Lighting enhances aesthetic appeal while also managing energy consumption and providing comfort. A well-lit kitchen provides us with an opportunity to gather and share stories over a meal. Lighting in the theater room lets us enjoy a cinema-like experience from the comfort of our couch. And a brightly lit exterior enhances the look and feel of a home while also providing added security.

When it comes to automation, lighting is just one part of a much larger picture that includes everything from entertainment, whole-home audio, climate control, security, and more. But lighting truly is the one component that ties everything together. Sure, it’s great being able to press a button on your keypad that turns the TV on to your favorite channel, but it’s much more convenient when that same button press dims the lights, lowers the shades and turns on the fireplace as well. It’s nice to be able to arm your alarm at night while lying in bed but much more impressive when that same click of a “Goodnight” button also turns off every light in your house. Not to mention how much safer you’ll feel if—when your alarm does happen to go off in the middle of the night—every light in the house turns on instead of leaving your house in complete darkness.

When I first installed a Control4 system in my home, I was so excited to have multi-room audio—with control of it from anywhere in the house. I loved getting my AV components hooked up and working together, and being able to control it all from multiple devices. And I was very excited to be able to turn on my furnace from my iPad. At the time, lighting was somewhat of an afterthought, but after living with Control4 technology for a year, I can honestly say that lighting control is the one feature I don’t think I could live without. It’s just too convenient to have my porch lights turn on and off automatically, synchronized with the sunset and sunrise. And I don’t know what I would do without my “Away” button that is by the garage on my way out the door every day, which turns off all the lights in the house that I had left on while getting ready for the day.

The Control4 next-generation of smart lighting control, comprised of new switches, dimmers and keypads, not only has a fantastic aesthetic appeal but also boasts additional features such as fan speed control and backlit engraving for a truly personalized experience.

Plus, if you’re building a new house, the Control4 Panelized Lighting solution allows you to replace an entire bank of light switches that clutter the wall with one single keypad or touch screen that can do so much more than just turn the lights on and off. Pardon the cheesy pun but with the next-generation of lighting products introduced by Control4, the future of smart lighting control certainly looks “bright!”
