Control FORE!

Dewey Tomko had a problem: He’d find himself thinking about his golf swing at night, when no course was open to practice on. So, he built his own. Now, Dewey can play golf when it’s raining or dark out--and so can you. Dewey’s Indoor Golf & Sports Grill is a 12,000-square-foot high-end entertainment center, just down the road from the convention center in Orlando, Florida. Here, golfers can swing on virtual versions of courses from around the world, and then relax in a luxury sports bar straight out of Vegas. It’s a dream come true for Dewey, who knows a lot about golf – but quite as much about technology. So, he hired Jeff Beyers at Soundwaves, who installed a Control4 system to oversee more than 60 televisions streaming 14 sources, and six zones of audio.

“The challenge was for any customer to be able to ask for any channel on any TV at any given time,” Jeff explains. “With Control4, it was simple.” Now, employees at Dewey’s use a 7-inch touch screen to control everything – the audio sources, any of the TVs, the camera system and security system.  At each golf simulator, players use a 2-button keypad to toggle between their golf games and live TV. Even Dewey thinks the system is a cinch!
